Luis Silva-Behrens10,000 Degrees Board Members
Supporter since 2018

When I moved to San Francisco in 2017, I was introduced to 10,000 Degrees by Saul Peña, a friend of mine who is also an alum and former board chair. I started volunteering with 10,000 Degrees, and I mentored a few students and helped with their financial literacy workshops. I believe in the 10,000 Degrees mission. Education has done wonders for me and my brother. Access to education is one of the most urgent issues we are facing today. Getting a college education is a direct way of transforming students’ lives. Fundamentally, I think that every student deserves the opportunity to go to college. It makes me proud to be able to help in some way. I am honored to be a new board member. Inequality is one of the most urgent issues we are facing today. People have a lot of differing ideas about how to address this. Education is part of the solution. If there is one way to massively improve your chances of breaking the cycle of poverty, it’s education. What 10,000 Degrees is doing is just incredible. They are transforming thousands of lives a year. The student graduation rates are amazing. And, just as importantly, the students graduate with much less student loan debt than the national average. It’s a really successful organization that is effecting change in the lives of many students. When you look at the numbers and the 10,000 Degrees success rates, they speak for themselves.
